Employee Success Stories

Craig Dowsett

I was offered an opportunity at Vintage Wealth Management Limited in 2016. I wanted to kick-start my career in financial services and provide myself with a firm footing in an industry where I could not only feel good about helping others and use my problem solving skills but also build a long career that would be rewarding in many different ways. I believe that, with the support, guidance and training that Vintage have offered me, I have exceeded even my own expectations. I was sponsored and supported through achieving the Financial Planning Diploma and Advanced Diploma and I am now officially an Independent Financial Adviser. I have been rewarded for my dedication and effort with many opportunities for self-development and progression. Since I have been working at Vintage, I have seen many examples of the company’s investment in the staff in many different ways and I am proud to work in an exceptional company that always strives for growth and excellence, both as a firm and for the individuals they employ.

Katy Sanderson

After 10 years in London working for a number of different Financial Advisers, I interviewed with Vintage in 2013 for a Paraplanner role. I knew that it was the right place for me to be. There was an instant “click” with my colleagues and I knew this was somewhere where I could make an impact and be supported in my career ambitions. Vintage was the first time I had ever worked within a team of paraplanners and I immediately felt the benefit of their wealth of knowledge – if one person didn’t know the answer someone else would and sharing knowledge was encouraged. During my time at Vintage, I supported two experienced advisers, one of whom was Chartered and gave me a wide variety of client experience across a broad spectrum of ages and financial situations. They both encouraged me to be part of the advice process rather than just a “report writer” and this enabled me to not only improve my technical knowledge but also better understand how to give advice.

Vintage have fully supported me in my development and progression to Chartered status both financially and academically. In addition, they have provided many internal training sessions and are always looking for ways to fill any knowledge gaps within the company, whether it is to support exams, general product education or specific technical knowledge. This support has helped me achieve Chartered Financial Planner status which has not only benefitted me but also given me the opportunity to assist others with my technical knowledge.

This combination of technical knowledge and being involved in the advice process has resulted in Vintage promoting me to Financial Adviser status. This is something I am very proud of especially due to Financial Services traditionally being a male dominated industry. This is something which Vintage is trying to change, and I hope I can be a role model for other females who are considering coming into the industry.

Vintage has not only provided me with career support, but I’ve also made a wealth of friends through regular social events and company outings. Vintage has always made me feel like my opinion is valued and I have always felt that my input is acknowledged and appreciated. The fact that they are not a big corporate means that we are given the freedom to create individual solutions for each client rather than trying to fit them all into the same box. Vintage supports me in my role and gives me a guideline to follow but I never feel restricted; I know that if I suggest doing something a different way it will always be considered which gives me the freedom to do the best for our clients.

Marcus Galloway

I joined Vintage in 2012 as an apprentice and office administrator covering all aspects of the day to day running of the business, from stocking the stationery cupboard to fixing the shredders and printers. This wasn’t a role I saw myself enjoying for the short- or long-term, so I asked Vintage for help with taking a more progressive route.

I took on a role with the operational support team, where I was responsible for processing the new business applications generated by advisers, preparing valuation documents for meetings and the ongoing servicing of client policies. After completing my stint with operational support in 2014, I embarked on preplanning, working closely with a colleague for two years until I was capable of managing the new role on my own.

I have since become an integral member of the Paraplanning team thanks to the support from colleagues at all levels of the business. Having proven my ability, I have been given the opportunity to work on my own and support the up and coming administrative, paraplanning and adviser staff.

I believe that I am an example of Vintage showing a proactive effort in supporting staff, rewarding work ethic and having faith in me as I worked up the employment ladder for the last seven years and for many more years to come.

Sam Worthy

I started my career in Financial Services four years ago when I took the leap to work in Investment Broking selling predominantly to IFAs, private banks and Trust companies in Dubai, Asia, and Europe. Working closely with financial advisers, I quickly realised it was a career path that suited me much better.

After a stint spent travelling in Australia, I took the leap into the world of Wealth Management, where I initially worked as a Trainee Adviser/Paraplanner and studied for the Investment Management Certificate (IMC), as well as various RO exams and CISI exams. I then moved from Southampton to London and joined Vintage Wealth Management as a Paraplanner.

I spend lots of time with friends and family and I enjoy rock climbing and other sports. I am currently training for a triathlon with hopes to eventually do an Ironman – if I don’t break both my legs in the process! I’d like to say thank you to everyone at Vintage for making me feel so welcome and I look forward to my future here.

Avi Samuels

I have been working in Financial Services for more than 30 years, since graduating from Manchester Polytechnic in 1986. I began my career in the sector as Broker Consultant at Friends Provident, then went on to join Abbey National (now Santander), where I held various roles and gained a wealth of experience over 17 years. My qualifications include a Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning and a CeMAP (Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice).

I joined Vintage in 2008, where I continued to expand my financial knowledge, before working in the City for eight years. I am now very happy to be back at Vintage and look forward to further developing my career within the team.

Outside of work, I love mountain climbing and hiking, particularly around Scandinavia, and my biggest achievement is having climbed – off the beaten track – Pulpit Rock in Stavanger, Norway. I am also an avid reader, play the guitar and am currently learning Spanish.

Rob Green

After graduating with a degree in Accountancy and Finance from the University of Lincoln in 2014, I took the entrepreneurial route and incorporated my own business in the golf industry. While growing the business, I gained experience in finance as a Trainee Broker at Tullett Prebon in Dubai. Four years later my business was at a stage where it could run itself and I went back into the Financial Services sector, this time working for financial technology company Centtrip, where we focused on providing services in FX, international payments and prepaid multi-currency cards.

I am pleased to have joined Vintage, where I hope to develop my skills and knowledge further and build a long-term career. My aim is to qualify with a Diploma in Financial Planning and later achieve Chartered status.

To date some of my biggest achievements have been competing in the London Youth Games and completing the Brighton Marathon in 2016. I enjoy challenging myself in sports and my hobbies include going to the gym, and coaching and playing 11-aside football.

Intern Stories

We are proud to offer a range of work experience and internship opportunities across the Vintage brands to those interested in and passionate about a career in financial services. We’ve welcomed ambitious and entrepreneurial interns, many of whom are studying for degrees in accounting, business, economics, banking and mathematics.

As well as a supportive and collaborative working environment, we provide training to enhance your experience and knowledge as well as give a good idea of what it would be like to work with us full time. We are also very friendly with a great track record of employee satisfaction and high retention rates.

We’ve included interviews with three of our most recent interns below to give you a little more insight about the Vintage experience and the opportunities you can access when you choose to spend time with us.

Esther Akomolafe – Work experience

I wanted to get a better understanding of a corporate environment. This opportunity has allowed me to understand how various departments in an organisation work together to achieve the overall business objective. I initially wanted to be an accountant but having the opportunity to work in the Mortgage Department has stimulated my interest in becoming a Mortgage Adviser.
The Mortgage Department, Operational Support and Sales & Marketing.
Working in the Marketing Department. I was given a research assignment which covered the comparison between robo-advice and IFA advice. The research was interesting and gave me insight into the challenges the advice industry is currently facing and how, even though the industry is leaning towards robo-advice, there is still a need for personal human interaction. Vintage Wealth Management offers a holistic personal approach to all their clients which is a service the market is still keen on receiving.
Vintage employ a friendly team of people who were very helpful in teaching me how to use the systems. I have benefited from a good exposure to all departments, which has been helpful when considering which career path to pursue.

Luke Jennings – Internship

This is my second internship with Vintage. I was interested in getting a better understanding of the role of an Independent Financial Adviser, as this particular career may be one that I am keen on exploring.
I assisted the Paraplanning, Financial Advisory and Investments team and I spent some time at Vintage Asset Management as well.
Attending client meetings with the Director and Compliance Officer and meeting the company representatives. I attended a management meeting with 15 other individuals, and it was interesting to see how the meeting was conducted, the types of topics discussed and how each role at the meeting played a very important part in decision making.
I was lucky enough to attend some of the company’s role play training sessions, which was a great way to learn the correct way to communicate with a client and see for myself how to obtain important information from them. It was also interesting to learn how decisions and holistic financial planning solutions are arrived at based on the clients’ needs.
Yes, the staff are helpful and very friendly to work with. This internship has allowed me to gain an overall insight into all the various departments, which has helped me consider career choices.
